We have had the pleasure to use several of the automatic locking wheel chairs made by Jerry Ford. They are great to use for any resident who suffers from any type of dementia. After using the wheel chairs we noted the number of falls decreasing dramatically. Jerry Ford was very easy to work with and any time we had a question or needed something he responded within the same business day. I would strongly encourage the use of the automatic locking wheel chair for any resident with dementia who is having high number of falls or forget to lock the chair when attempting to stand up.

To Whom It May Concern:

We have been in the wheelchair business serving clients throughout the world since 1967. Over the years we have encountered many new ideas to improve the wheelchair. This simple yet effective wheel lock system ranks near the top.

We have seen other types of automatic locking systems for wheelchairs yet they have draw backs such as the do not allow the wheelchair to be folded. We see this braking system being very attractive to those living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and memory loss. Many of these client’s are physically capable of walking yet do not retain the short term memory to apply the wheel lock brakes before standing. With this great new locking system the client would be safe to stand without locking the conventional wheel lock, thus preventing the wheelchair from moving and preventing the client from falling.

We were first introduced to the braking system in late July and have been very excited to arrange evaluations with some of our referral clinics. We have received an outstanding response from each and every one of the clinics. We are excited about this new idea and highly support promoting this product. We feel this unique wheel lock system will greatly improve the patient’s quality of life by decreasing the risk of falling when standing from their wheelchair.

I’m writing this letter in regards to your wheelchair with the automatic locking brake system. I’ve been in the business of selling wheelchairs for 8 years in nursing homes, assisted livings, and private individuals. I own a company called Mid Nebraska Mobility Inc. in Kearney, Nebraska. This is an unbelievable product. I currently use other products and most have a host of problems, like keeping them adjusted correctly so they will work. They are also not caregiver friendly, nor are they very reliable products and the patient is still at risk for falls.

Falls are a nursing home’s biggest problem and they spend a large amount of money to try to prevent them. This product will be a great product to market not only to them, but I’m also thinking of using it as a Medicare and insurance rental, as well as selling it in the store for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. I’ve seen a lot of new products over the years, but none of them can help prevent falls like this can. You have created a great product for this industry. I look forward to marketing it throughout the state of Nebraska, which will be very easy as I think the chair speaks for itself.

I am very excited about this product. Having been working in a skilled nursing facility for several years I have been exposed to a number of products involving wheelchairs. I have worked with anti-rollback devices that retrofit existing chairs. I have not felt comfortable using these devices but I had been caught in a period when their was no alternatives to what was the "status-quo."

That has changed. I first saw Jerry Ford's product about a year ago as I was searching on the internet for a better solution to rollback problems. I was hooked. I feel that this is a product that has no equal in the industry. It will save countless lives in its application and in so doing will save millions of dollars in medical and litigation costs around the country. This product should be a standard in the industry.
